Logging In:
Login : Visit the website https://www.globalinstituteeatingdisorders.com/ and use the Login tab (top right) to login to the website.
Logging in takes you to the wp admin dashboard.
Don't panic! - you don't need to worry about 99% of all the stuff there. Promise.
Switch to your normal website view by clicking the little home icon top left. Notice the new black admin toolbar strip running across the top of your pages.
Switch back to the admin dasboard by again if you want by clicking the little dashboard icon top left.
Editing your pages.
Login as above and switch to the "normal" website view.
Navigate to any page you want to edit and click the little "Edit Page" icon in the black admin tool bar across the top. This will open your page in the wordpress page editor.
You will find that your page content is contained within a series of rows or boxes which are arranged in the same order they appear on your page.
To edit the actual content click inside any box.
Example - edit your homepage intro text: "Learn new skills"...
Login and open your homepage for editing as described above.
Click inside the right hand box on the 1st row ("Learn New Skills..."). This opens the content for editing.
*Note: WP gives us 2 options to edit - "Visual" or "Text". You can switch between the 2 views by clicking the tabs in the top right of the editor. You would mostly be using the "Visual" mode as this displays your content as it looks on the website.
The "Text" mode is more useful for pasting special html code or text lifted directly from another website or wordprocessor etc.
You'll see some familiar formatting options in the edit tool bar. Most of them are obvious, but there's a "paragraph" dropdown menu to select various Heading sizes or the normal default "paragraph" text size.
So make your text edits as required. Then click the blue "Done" button & finally the big blue "Update" button in the "Publish" section on the right to save your changes. You can now check out the live page by clicking the "View Page" tab in the black admin strip across the top of your browser.
Changing Images
Homepage Images
Your homepage has an image of a girl with a cat, top left of your homepage.
You can change this image by editing the homepage as described above. This time, click inside the first box on the left of the top row. This will reveal the current image.
Click the image and select the little pencil edit link.
This opens your image for editing. You have various options here, such as resizing or adding a hyperlink to another page etc. But for now we are just going to replace it.
So Click the "Replace" button underneath the image thumbnail, and browse your website media library or your computer for another image you want to upload and use instead.
Click the blue "Replace" button, then "Done" & finally "Update" to save your changes.
*Note: Your website images don't have to be an exact size as the responsive design will try to scale them to fit the available space. But for best results try to make your images roughly the correct size and layout before uploading - for example, most content images are @ 1000px wide by @ 750px tall (landscape format).
Large Banner / Feature Images
Some of your pages have a large "letterbox" format image at the top of the page with some text on top of them, such as the "our courses" page: https://www.globalinstituteeatingdisorders.com/our-courses/
You can change this image by editing the page, then scroll down the options on right of the page editor and find the "Featured Image". Add the new image you want to use there and click "Update" to save your changes.
Again, try to size your images to approx the right format (letterbox) before uploading. Images of around 2000px wide by @ 700px tall will work best for these large feature images.
Feature Image Text
To change the our courses feature image text, scroll down your page editor until you find the "Custom Fields" Section. You'll find it here - Headline / Value. So just edit the text in the Value field "Our Courses" to anything you like and then "Update" to save your changes.
!Note- If you can't see the "Custom Fields" section please make sure it is checked in the "Screen Options" tab very top right of your screen...
Replacing Course thumbnail link Images:
Some of your pages such as your homepage "Featured Courses" section have a row of thumbnail images which link directly to other pages or sections. These thumbnails are lifted directly from the page they are linking to.
So.. if you want to change the thumbnail for the "Schema Therapy for Eating Disorders" course link, then view the homepage and click on the link to the course and then edit that course using the "Edit Course" tab in the black admin strip across the top of your browser.
Scroll down the page editor and find the "featured image" in the options on the right. Just change that image to any other pic you want to use, and then "Update".
**Note you can change the text snippet underneath these thumbnails. "A short custom excerpt.." Again, edit the page the thumb links to, scroll right down to the right hand options and underneath the "Featured Image" you should see the "Excerpt" section. Just write anything you want here. Best to keep it brief though as there's not a lot of room inside the thumbnail boxes... Again, click "update" to save your changes.
Uploading & Adding New Images
You can easily upload and add an image to any website page.
Just edit the page and click where you want the image to appear.
Now use the "Add Media" tab (top left of your page format toolbar) and browse to find your new image and click the blue "Insert into page" button, then "Done" and "Update" to save your changes.
Buttons
We use a plugin to create call to action / buttons.
To insert a button, edit your page and click where you want the button to appear.
Near the end of your editor format toolbar, click the little pink "MB" button.
You can choose the standard Contact button (ID:1) or on of the other styles. So choose one, and click "Use this Button"
You can now set a link / url. If you don't enter anything here, then the button defaults to opening your contact page.
So if you wanted your button to link to your "About" page instead, then paste https://www.globalinstituteeatingdisorders.com/about/ into the URL field.
Now can write "About" in the "Button Text (or anything else) & click "insert button into editor"
As usual, click "Done" & "Update" to save your changes.
Courses
There is a separate "How To" guide to creating courses on the website: https://www.globalinstituteeatingdisorders.com/course/how-to-create-a-new-course/
We'll hide this when you are ready to launch!
Feedback / Testimonials
We have added a testimonials slider to the foot of your website which scrolls through any testimonials you have added. But this has been disabled until you have some client comments you wish to publish.
Website Blog
We've added a wordpress blog section where you can create and publish your own news / blog articles. Again we have disabled this section for now until you are ready for it...
